Dealu Mare Vineyards
Southern Carpathian foothills in Prahova and Buzău counties, on the 45th parallel north of Bucharest

Dealu Mare

Romania's most concentrated fine-wine hills, where Bordeaux-like latitude meets Carpathian shelter.

Overview

Dealu Mare stretches for roughly 65 km along the southern Carpathian hills between the Teleajen and Buzău rivers. Vineyards sit between 130 and 550 metres, protected from harsh northern winds while catching long hours of southern sun.

The region is famed for structured reds and aromatic whites. Producers here craft bold Fetească Neagră, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon reds alongside perfumed Tămâioasă Românească and Fetească Albă whites.

Key Varietals

  • Fetească NeagrăRomania's flagship red, giving dark fruit, spice and fine tannins in these iron-rich hills.
  • Fetească AlbăAn ancient white that keeps freshness and floral fruit even in warm sites.
  • Tămâioasă RomâneascăA fragrant Muscat-like variety producing aromatic whites with honeyed floral notes.
  • MerlotA leading international red that ripens reliably into soft, plummy wines.
