Dalmatia

Overview

Dalmatia stretches along Croatia's southern coast, encompassing the islands of Hvar, Korčula, Brač, and Vis, as well as the coastal hinterland around Split, Šibenik, and Dubrovnik. The region has a warm Mediterranean climate, thin rocky soils, and some of the country's most dramatic vineyard landscapes.

Plavac Mali is Dalmatia's signature red, a close relative of Zinfandel that produces powerful, tannic wines from steep karst slopes. Pošip, a full-bodied white from Korčula, is the region's most important white variety. Historic producers such as Bibich, Matuško, and Zlatan Otok have helped define modern Dalmatian wine.
