Codru lies at the heart of Moldova, stretching across wooded hills and river valleys between the Prut and Dniester rivers. The region is home to the legendary underground cellars of Cricova and Mileștii Mici, whose limestone galleries store millions of bottles in constant cool humidity.
With altitudes around 100 to 150 meters and a moderate continental climate, Codru is Moldova's premier zone for crisp white and sparkling wines. Soils of grey forest earth and fertile chernozem over limestone and clay subsoils give wines freshness, finesse, and subtle mineral character. Indigenous and international white varieties thrive here, while warmer pockets also support refined red blends.
