Čitluk

Overview

Čitluk is widely considered the heart of Herzegovinian wine production, with almost every family in the municipality maintaining its own vineyard. The town sits on the Brotnjo plateau near Međugorje and is home to landmark producers such as Brkić, Cituk, and Nuić, as well as the largest stone vineyard in the country at Konjusi.

The terroir is classic Herzegovina: warm, dry summers, karst limestone bedrock, and red soils that stress the vines and concentrate flavors. Blatina and Žilavka dominate plantings, while smaller amounts of Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Vranac, and Trnjak add variety. Tastings are usually paired with local cheese, pršut, and traditional Herzegovinian platters.
