Cahul

Overview

Cahul occupies the far south of Moldova, in the warm river valleys of the Prut and Nistru. The climate is the most Mediterranean-influenced in the country, with hot, dry summers, mild winters, and abundant sunshine that push grapes to full ripeness. Vineyards are often planted on gentle slopes and terraces, where air circulation and drainage help maintain vine health.

Soils combine fertile black earth with sandy, clay, and loamy layers that promote balanced vine growth and concentrated flavors. The region is best known for powerful reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, as well as the historic red dessert wine style often linked to Cahor. Fresh whites and aromatic indigenous varieties add further diversity to the local portfolio.
