Overview

Berat is one of Albania's most picturesque wine regions, set in a valley carved by the Osum River and framed by rugged, terraced hillsides. The area's Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and cool river breezes, creates favorable conditions for both red and white grapes. Vineyards here are often small, family-run plots that have been cultivated for generations.

The region is best known for indigenous Albanian grapes such as Shesh i Bardhë and Shesh i Zi, which produce fresh, earthy wines that pair beautifully with local cuisine. In recent years, a handful of boutique wineries have opened their doors to visitors, offering tastings in historic stone buildings with views of Berat's famous Ottoman architecture.
