Almansa

Overview

Almansa is a high, inland region in southeastern Albacete, with vineyards planted between 700 and 1,100 meters on limestone soils. The climate is continental, with cold winters, hot summers, and low rainfall. The altitude moderates the heat and helps grapes retain acidity despite the southern latitude.

Garnacha Tintorera is the signature grape, a teinturier variety with red flesh and juice that gives wines intense color and body. Monastrell, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah are also grown, producing bold reds and some rosés. Almansa is known for powerful, deeply colored wines at accessible prices.
