Overview
Aiud lies on the Transylvanian plateau at 300 to 500 metres, protected from strong winds and blessed with a long, foggy autumn. The moderately continental climate preserves acidity and allows slow aromatic development.
Brown argillo-luvial soils, rendzinas and chernozem support mainly white varieties. Fetească Regală, Fetească Albă, Rhine Riesling and Pinot Gris dominate, producing fresh, mineral wines with floral and citrus characters.
Key Varietals
- Fetească RegalăRomania's most popular white, here showing crisp apple, pear and white flower notes.
- Fetească AlbăAn ancient Transylvanian white with delicate stone fruit and lively acidity.
- Rhine RieslingA late-ripening white that retains piercing citrus acidity in the cool climate.
- Pinot GrisA soft, aromatic white adding pear, spice and texture to blends.
